Shaving the peaks

Posted in Uncategorized by ruthslavid on November 2, 2009

We talk a lot about reducing overall energy consumption, but Ashley Bateson, head of sustainability at Hoare Lea, made an interesting point about reducing peak demand – probably through smart metering with variable tariffs.

It is our peak demand that determines how much generating capacity we need, and building that capacity and its associated infrastructure is expensive and energy-consuming in its own right.

My profile of Ashley Bateson will appear in the next issue of Specification magazine.
